Springboard x Blacks In Technology Software Engineering Fellowship Program

Springboard and Blacks In Technology are joining forces to award $90,000 in scholarships.

Springboard is excited to partner with Blacks In Technology, the largest community and media organization dedicated to leveling the playing field for Black talent in the tech industry, for the launch of a new fellowship program. The program will see both organizations joining forces with industry employers and sponsors alike, who are aligned in our mission to combat underrepresentation in the tech industry by accelerating equitable opportunities for fellows to upskill into fulfilling careers. A selected cohort of fellows will each receive a $10,610 scholarship to enroll in the Software Engineering Career Track at a subsidized rate of $1,000. Payment plans will be administered upon course enrollment by Springboard.

Fellowship Eligibility Requirements:
Must self-identify as Black / African-American
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must be a U.S. resident
Must be willing to work in the U.S.
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Must meet standard admission requirements set forth by Springboard for the specific course in which they intend to enroll (see more below)

Hands-on projects

Complete four end-to-end projects including two capstones for your portfolio.

Personal mentorship

Meet weekly with a mentor specifically matched to suit your learning and career goals.

Work 1:1 with a career coach

Your career coach will help you craft a job search strategy, practice interviews, and negotiate offers.

Build a unique portfolio

You'll build two full-stack capstone projects to showcase your skills to employers. You'll work directly with a personal mentor, an expert software engineer currently working in the industry.
While working on the projects, you'll:
Build static webpages with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Create beautiful, interactive client-side web apps
Make well-designed server-side JavaScript applications using Node and Express

Interview with an Admissions Director
We'll discuss your background and learning goals to make sure you're a good fit for the program.

Take the skills survey
If the program is a good fit, we'll send you a skills survey to gauge your programming knowledge and problem-solving skills before beginning the course.

Join the program
If you pass the technical skills survey, we will send you a registration link. Choose the start date and payment plan that works for you (we can help!). You’ll be one of the fewer than 20% of applicants who secured a spot in the Software Engineering Career Track!

Is this program right for me?

This software engineering bootcamp is designed for motivated people who have basic skills in JavaScript, an aptitude for problem solving, and strong communication and collaboration skills. We welcome students from all work experiences and fields of study.

Prerequisites

JavaScript fundamentals - Ability to write simple functions, loops, conditional statements and declare variables
Programmatic problem solving skills - Ability to break down a problem into its component pieces, think through it logically, and come up with a solution
Recommended: HTML & CSS fundamentals - Ability to build simple web pages with basic knowledge of selectors, common CSS rules and specificity

Industry Cohort Sponsor - Build a sustainable pipeline of pre-selected candidates to upskill through a fellowship cohort while providing on-the-job training to fellows prior to or upon completion of the course.
